Outreach
2006 and 2007 have been our most successful Outreach Years ever! We raised $35,000 for our Lugala Project. In 2006, Three people went to the village and distributed 44,000 pounds of maize, 1,000 mosquito nets and school uniforms as well as school books. This was followed by another successful mission in 2007. There is no doubt that lives have been saved by our involvement. Their church is now completed and the pastor's house and a village well will be early this year. However, this project is much more than practical aid. We also shared and continue to share our faith and Christian values with the parish of Lugala
People as far away as South Africa, Scotland, England and the U.S. know about St Philips and your outreach work. A very conservative estimate is that 2,000 people were helped or helped raise funds for this project. Although this project is our largest we have others that are carried out in the Markham area.
Our Care & Share Christmas program supplied gifts & food items for a complete Christmas for 10 families. Our 20 Santa Sacs went to 20 seniors without families.
Helping Hands continues to take people to the airport for a reasonable fee. This program will also provide hot meals for parishioners on an emergency basis.
Also the parish is actively involved in the Markham Food Bank, Faithworks, Yellow Brick House and M.I.C.A.H programs in the Markham and York Region area.
Other projects carried out in Markham and other areas are
- Care & Share Christmas program
- Helping Hands
- Markham Food Bank
- Faithworks
- M.I.C.A.H.
- Operation Christmas Child
- World Vision Child Sponsorship
